Designer Saul Nash digitally showed his AW21 collection this afternoon, and shares with ES his thoughts on the future of fashion, the silver linings of the pandemic and how he stays feeling zen
What does a day preparing for your new collection look like?
This time around it feels really different, before [the pandemic] I would be running around preparing for a physical event. Today I feel zen and at peace.
How are you feeling right now?
What has your collection prep snack been?
To tell you the sinful truth I have been heading to McDonald's for some cheeky fries.
Sum up your new collection and the inspirations behind it?
'Twist' is all about self reflection. It plays on preconceived ideas and assumptions and presents a story of love and acceptance.
How has it been putting on this digital-only show vs how you normally do it? What have you learned?
It has been fun, I think it also pushes you to use different mediums that you wouldn’t have before to help embody the essence of your collection.
Have there been any silver linings to the pandemic for you/ your business?
Positivity! I think when you are faced with a pandemic, health and happiness become even more important.
What do you think the future of fashion holds?
I think the pandemic has created more equality within fashion. I think it has also pushed us as designers to explore new and innovative ways to showcase work. Maybe this is something that will remain in fashion.
How will you relax/celebrate once your show is finished?
I will probably call my family and have a mini celebration with my partner at home.
