CAMP IT UP

While far-flung holidays might not be on the cards just yet, you can pitch your tent (or chic, rustic cabin) closer to home, says Jessica Benjamin

For something a little different:
Brook House Woods, Herefordshire

Lockdown hasn’t provided us with many new stories to tell over dinner. Fortunately, this is where Herefordshire’s Brook House Woods steps in. Fancy trying your hand at woodworking? How about a raw chocolate workshop? Gin botanicals foraging? Yoga, tennis, massages, pizza, cider tasting… you name it, Brook House does it.

Its accommodation is equally eclectic — whether you fancy swinging from the trees in the Goji tree tent or squirrelling yourself away for the night in its Hobbit hut (complete with Hobbit-sized circular door). Also coming in May is a brand new round, wood cabin, featuring a private deck, fire pit, pizza oven and barbecue. You’ll know where to find us this summer. From £210 for two nights

For a romantic retreat:
Brownscombe, Devon

The drive down to south Devon is worth it for Brownscombe, a luxury camping site set in a South Hams family farm. Choose from family-sized luxury ‘tents’ (the camping averse will be pleased to know they’re akin to canvas houses) or for a romantic escape, go for a secluded cabin complete with a private hot tub.

Our favourite? The Brownscombe Tabernacle, a mini chapel-esque lodge nestled in its own private meadow. Tuck yourself away and emerge only to stock up on champagne from the site’s luxury larder — or for one of the acclaimed wellness packages.
From £345 for two nights

For a family adventure: Wild Luxury, Norfolk

Head up to the Norfolk coast to find Wild Luxury, a camping retreat that’s spread across two main sites; the beachside Thornham Bay and the slightly more elusive ‘Hideaway’. Its safari lodges, sleeping up to 10 people, come fully (and luxuriously) equipped, and there’s even a ‘pamper pod’, kitted out with hair and make-up stations so, thankfully, you can leave the dozen bottles of dry shampoo at home.

For a family getaway, opt for the Hideaway’s adventurous surroundings, complete with swing tree, volleyball, a zip line and even a parachute camp. Bring the dog along to win extra brownie points with your kids.
