Annabel Rivkin finds her perfect match online
There is light at the end of the tunnel and — for once — it may not be the train coming to flatten us. Yet here I sit, like a bear in hibernation that has slowed its heart rate down in order to survive, I am also bear-like in terms of hair, tummy and temper. BUT — elasticated waistbands aside, part of me knows that I need to prepare for... public consumption. Because I am in no way palatable as I am. And there will be a party sometime. And I may have bought an intensely flouncy frock.
But the face, guys. It’s not so good. Tinted moisturiser isn’t cutting it and certainly won’t for the full-on glamour that part of me — bed socks aside — is planning. Plus I have a troubled relationship with foundation and find it almost impossible to find the correct shade even when we aren’t locked down. Foundation shopping online? Surely not... Thankfully, think again!
Il Makiage stalked me on Instagram with its irritating videos of girls polishing on perfect, Kardashian-style skin but the reality is astounding. A detailed but quick questionnaire and boom... A bottle of Woke Up Like This landed and changed everything. It is a true match (how do they do this?Something called the PowerMatch algorithm); a proper second-skin situation.
Buffed on with a brush, it looks as though I’ve had a professional make-up artist illegally swing by. Smooth, natural — if I were a different person I might say flawless. Oh, and if you don’t like it, send it the hell back. Brilliant.
